Supporting and being part of a relevant sector of the Chilean economy, the food sector, the Association of Processors and Exporters of Prunes of Chile, Chileprunes, was present, once again, at the National Agricultural Meeting (Enagro) 2024, the most relevant event of the year for the agricultural sector and organized by the National Society of Agriculture (SNA).
With 14 associates, Chileprunes is a relevant association of the national agri-food sector, which has Chile as number 1 in exports of prunes in the world.
“Chileprunes, as a promoter of prunes abroad, and therefore, of Chilean fruit, seeks an increasing quality of its fruit, and for this, we are committed to consistency, innovation and new technologies, as well as the search for sustainability that is part of our approach,” says Pedro Acuña.
“Chilean Agriculture, Eco-Food Power” was the title of the 2024 event where Antonio Walker, president of the National Society of Agriculture, welcomed the more than a thousand attendees to the ceremony, an event attended by the President of the Republic, Gabriel Boric.
On the occasion, Walker said that “we have sectors that are quite complicated in terms of profitability, we saw that cereals, which are 500,000 hectares planted, had negative profitability the previous year, and that hurts us, and we are working on how to support them.” However, he said that “we have a more stable inflation, a slight economic recovery, we have enabling conditions so that we can increase investments.”
For his part, President Gabriel Boric highlighted the agricultural roots of our country, as well as the strengthening of the sustainable export agenda: “Chileans can be proud of the work of farmers, ranchers, winegrowers; because in Chile and increasingly in more places in the world, we can feed ourselves with fresh products from our land. There are reasons to be optimistic in terms of agro-exports, because we have more than 30 trade agreements with 65 economies in the world and that has been a State policy that has borne fruit; our sustainable agro-export competitiveness agenda continues to advance steadily to open new markets, to create more and better opportunities for Chilean products abroad. As of August 2024, exports have grown by 9.2% compared to 2023.”
